about

After more than a decade performing music professionally, Chicago songwriter Stolie directed her wit to a new demographic, and under a new moniker. Super Stolie celebrates the humility and hilarity of life in songs for KIDS!

When I Grow Up, her fourth solo album, but first collection of children’s songs, features 11 original ditties like "Two Minutes" about how long to brush your teeth and "Kitties and Dogs," a rocker encouraging the adoption of pets so that our dreams of one day becoming veterinarians can be fulfilled. You'll also hear “The Unicorn,” written by Shel Silverstein and “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” the all-vocal song written by Bobby McFerrin and a #1 single from the late 1980’s.

When Super Stolie first began playing shows for kids -- at fundraisers and birthday parties -- she found ways to add twists to popular traditional songs; perhaps Old MacDonald also had a jungle? Inevitably, the songwriter’s own clever material began to emerge. The songs on When I Grow Up talk of exploring Chicago’s many attractions, rapping your name, traveling on an escalator, describing what you see in the sky, peanut butter preferences, and just generally being happy about life!

For the album, Super Stolie performs on guitar, piano, bass, djembe, harmonica, tambourine, and of course singing! But listen closely, and you might also hear her clapping her hands, walking in high heel shoes and making animal noises! Drums, strings, and everything else were realized with the help of Apple’s Garageband, the program with which Super Stolie recorded her album in her Chicago home.

Track Name: I Took a Trip
I took a trip
I took a trip in the spring
I took a trip in the spring to somewhere totally new
Here are the things
Here are the things that I saw
Here are the things that I saw and now I’ll show them to you

Ever go anywhere in the spring?
Where'd you go, what'd you do, what'd you see?
Was is somewhere new, Maybe the Lincoln Park Zoo
With the monkeys all hanging in the trees?

Did you smell flowers at the Botanic Gardens
Ride bikes through the forest on the trails?
Or swing on swings after the school bell rings
and go digging in the dirt for snails?

You can spend an hour in the Willis Tower
and see people that are small as ants
Or make your way to the St. Patrick's Day Parade
And watch the Trinity Dancers dance!

I took a trip
I took a trip in the summer
I took a trip in the summer to somewhere totally new
Here are the things
Here are the things that I saw
Here are the things that I saw and now I’ll show them to you

Ever go anywhere in the summertime
Where'd you go, what'd you do, what'd you see?
You can have a blast on Ravinia's grass
and splash at North Avenue Beach

Or did you take the El to Wrigley Field
and finally see the Cubbies win a game?
Play at Millennium park till the sky turns dark
and jump in the water by the Bean!

If you go to Grant Park to the Taste of Chicago
You can eat and eat and      eat all day
or come sing and dance and bounce along while
Super Stolie and the Rockstars play

I took a trip
I took a trip in the fall
I took a trip in the fall to somewhere totally new
Here are the things
Here are the things that I saw
Here are the things that I saw and now I’ll show them to you

Ever go anywhere in the fall?
Where'd you go, what'd you do, what'd you see?
Did you ride on ferris wheel at Navy Pier
and see your favorite movie in 3-D?

You can check out books from Chicago Public Library
and how many pages have you read?
Have you been on a field trip to any museums
Like to see the sharks at the Shedd?

Who were you for Halloween
How many times did you say "trick or treat"?
Did you WhirlyBall or Rock n Bowl
or go swimming at Coco Key?

<break>

Ever go anywhere in the wintertime?
Where'd you go, what'd you do, what'd you see?
Did you have to wait to Skate on State
And did you watch them light the big tree?

When you walked by Macy's holiday windows
Did they kick your winter time blues?
Did you climb up in the castle at Fantasy Kingdom
to be Cinderella with no shoes?

Did you shop for gifts on the Magnificent Mile
and hope that your toes wouldn't freeze
And wish you were are home, curled up on the couch
with  Channel 11's Check Please?

I took a trip
I took a trip in the winter
I took a trip in the winter to somewhere totally new
Here are the things
Here are the things that I saw

Track Name: The Unicorn
A long time ago, when the Earth was green
There was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen
They'd run around free while the Earth was being born
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
The loveliest of all was the unicorn

The Lord seen some sinning and it gave Him pain
And He says, "Stand back, I'm going to make it rain"
He says, "Hey Noah, I'll tell you what to do
Build me a floating zoo,
and take some of those...

Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
Don't you forget My unicorns

Old Noah was there to answer the call
He finished up making the ark just as the rain started to fall
He marched the animals two by two
And he called out as they came through
Hey Lord,

I've got green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn
I just can't find no unicorns"

And Noah looked out through the driving rain
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games
Kicking and splashing while the rain was falling
Oh, them silly unicorns

There was green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Noah cried, "Close the door because the rain is falling
And we just can't wait for no unicorns"

The ark started moving, it drifted with the tide
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away
That's why you never see unicorns to this very day

You'll see green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born
You're never gonna see no unicorns

Track Name: Don't Worry, Be Happy
Here’s a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry be happy
In every life we have some trouble
When you worry you make it double
Don't worry, be happy......

Ain't got no place to lay your head
Somebody came and took your bed
Don't worry, be happy
When you worry your face will frown
And that will bring everybody down
So don't worry, be happy
Look at me I am happy
Don't worry, be happy
When you worry, call a friend - they’ll make you happy!
Don't worry, be happy

Ain't got no cash, ain't got no style
Ain't got no friends to make you smile
But don't worry, be happy
Cause when you worry
Your face will frown
And that will bring everybody in this place down
So don't worry, be happy (now).....

When I brush my teeth for two minutes

My smile is so bright and clean
Hey, what do you think?
Track Name: Rainbows
I want to climb a rainbow
Up to the sky
And look down on all the people
Walking by

I want to sprinkle showers
Of colors from above
And fill the world with laughter
And love

And when I slide down to the ground
I'll smile as I look around
and see rainbows
Wherever I go

Teardrops look a lot like raindrops
falling from the sky
But that just means a rainbow
is close by

And when you climb from the ground
You'll smile as you look around
You'll see rainbows
Wherever you go

I want to climb a rainbow
I want to climb a rainbow

I see rainbows
wherever I go
I see rainbows
wherever I go
I see rainbows
wherever I go
